The Den
The Den is an adult gaming lounge aboard a luxury cruise ship, created for Oceans Hotel Resorts. The format it belongs to, the arcade, comes with a reading no premium operator wants: bright, juvenile, cheap. The brief was to give a cruise ship's adult guests a reason to spend an evening in a room full of games, which meant changing what the room signaled before anyone stepped inside.
The strategy was to reposition the venue by its order of operations. The tagline we developed, Drink. Lounge. Game., puts gaming third on purpose. It tells a guest that this is a drinks venue that happens to have games, not a games venue that happens to serve drinks, and every subsequent decision, from the name to the color system, was made to reinforce that hierarchy.
The concept is dark and neon-lit: a deep black field with cyan, violet, and magenta specified to Pantone, so the palette holds on printed collateral and glassware as well as on screens. A custom wordmark and logotype refinement give the name a presence that feels powered rather than printed, and the entrance design was directed so that the glow of the identity is the first thing a guest sees from the corridor.
Delivery covered the full lockup, tagline, color and type specification, environmental signage direction and entrance design, and branded collateral including glassware, print materials, and presentation templates, all built to be produced and maintained by the operator's own team at sea.
The identity successfully reframes the arcade format for an adult demographic by using name, tagline, color, and mark to signal belonging before a guest sets foot inside. It is a clear demonstration of positioning doing the heavy lifting, and of a visual system that bridges digital and physical because the brand does not feel printed, it feels powered.
